Eventually enough of the resin will be exhausted that full filtration no longer occurs, and at this point the DI filter is usually changed, even though some removal capacity still remains. With a second DI filter the first DI filter can be completely exhausted before replacement, and by using a full size DI filter efficiency is maximized. When the second filter begins to wear out it can be moved to the first position, with a new DI filter in the second position. This allows each DI filter is completely used before being replaced, resulting in less frequent filter changes.
